The aim of the project was to create three modern and striking townhouses which would nestle into the sloping hillside of the site and compliment surrounding homes. Central to this aim was to successfully capture and maximise the uninterrupted views provided by a premium site that also presented with both accessibility and build ability challenges and restrictions.
The design brief was to create three modern and engaging townhouses which would stand out from similar projects. Particular focus was given to a design that would be effective in maximising the advantages of the steep site which effectively allowed unobstructed views from each townhouse.
Raw precast concrete panels and natural block work were selected for the lower levels of the buildings. The rawness of these materials blends the buildings into the hillside at ground level. Light and more contemporary materials were utilised on the upper levels, with macrocarpa pine used to tie the two elements to achieve a cohesive exterior aesthetic.
The premium location and modern design were critical considerations in capturing the targeted market segment. Market research suggested that there was demand for properties fitting this description and this opinion was supported when all three townhouses were sold off the plan.
